Research Professional, a large database that provides access to opportunities for research funding from the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Australia and New Zealand, as well as "pan-European" opportunities, including EU funds, is available online to people who are registered with Umeå University. UmU is one of the three Bio4Energy academic founding partners and professional home to a just under 20 B4E scientists.
Many scientists, especially if they do applied research, do not receive a salary from their home institution, but rather rely on external support such as scholarships and grants. In a busy everyday, a collective place in which to scan the horizon for funding can be a time saver.
Receiving an email each week that outlines the latest funding opportunities may be even more helpful. A registration on the dedicated entry page of the Research Professional database, which emerged on the Swedish version of the Umeå University website 26 September, is a way to start.
According Research, which is the firm that markets the database, this is a "comprehensive funding database, which contains detailed information on thousands of funding opportunities from sponsors from all around the world". Moreover, the Research Professional database tracks funding opportunities from other countries if those are open to applications from researchers worldwide, the company says on its website.
For its part, Umeå University says the tool represents:
- "An intuitive interface to make browsing for funding as simple as checking your email;
- Shared resources, allowing you to benefit from saved searches and folders of bookmarked items created for you by your administrators, (and);
- Powerful search tools to help you find exactly the funding opportunities and news articles that interest you".
Decidedly, this search engine must have it all.
