Conference: Social Science in Our Time

13005157 multiracial group of friends with hands in stackFull title: 14th Nordic Environmental Social Science Conference (NESS): Social Science in Our time

When: 10-12 June 2019

Where: Luleå University of Technology, Luleå, Sweden

Contents

NESS 2019 focuses on new directions in Nordic environmental social science research and particularly emphasise the importance of social science for managing current challenges on the international and national as well as the local governance agenda. From a multi-disciplinary social science perspective, we focus on the interconnectedness of the global challenges of today and the available solutions on all institutional levels. Whereas other disciplines offer technical solutions to certain environmental challenges, environmental social science is key for these solutions to be adopted in societies. Social science is also crucial in order to understand why conflicts occur – and how they can be overcome. Social science perspectives are thus invaluable for managing current sustainability challenges such as, but not restricted to, climate change, food, water, energy, natural resource extraction and the development towards a new bio economy.

The NESS 2019 workshops cover various aspects of today’s environmental social science in a broad sense and we thus welcome both theoretical/conceptual papers and empirically focused papers as well as policy relevant papers, focusing on all levels from the international to the local level. The hosting Social Science Division at LTU specialises in close collaborations regarding environmental social science within law, history, political science and economics. We welcome 250 Nordic and international researchers to NESS 2019 to emphasise the important role of environmental social science in our time.

Bio4Metals Final Conference/slutkonferens

Swedish Seminar on Strategic Evaluation of Industrial Biorefineries

Time: Thursday 7 March 2019, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Place: Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre, Nils Ericons Plan 4, Stockholm, Sweden

Language spoken: English

The Swedish Energy Agency is organising this seminar as a part of Sweden's involvement in the International Energy Agency, Industrial Energy-Related Technologies and Systems (IEA, IETS).

Industrial biorefineries will be set a foot. There are uncertainties and risks involved in this type of capital-intensive investment. The IEA and partners have developed methods and tools for minimising risks and improving the base for strategic decision-making in industry. Methods and tools developed in Sweden, as well as some major international ones will be presented and discussed at the seminar.

Such uncertainties and risks influence both the economy and consequences of implementing different types of biorefinery concepts. Future conditions for value chains, integration, policy instruments and energy prices as well as regional availability of biomass types, process industries, green power, will have a considerable influence on the choice of feedstock, processes and products. Available decision support systems and ex-ante methods or tools deal with aspects of importance for decision-making regarding such concepts.

Target groups for this seminar are representatives from industry, universities, institutes and regional and government authorities.

To participate, please send an e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by 27 February.

Welcome!

Ingen avgift. Begränsat antal platser.
