The Bio4Energy platform for System Analysis and Bioeconomy conducts research in the following areas of activity:

  • Use of process integration methods to optimise plant energy and material flows;

 

  • Techno-economic assessments;

 

  • Application of life-cycle analysis (LCA) for environmental assessments;

 

  • Policy design and implementation, regulatory issues, market dynamics and innovation diffusion and adaptation, as well as;

 

  • Spatial modelling of cost-effective production plant localisations. (This implies efforts to minimise the cost of the entire system being studied, taking into account costs and revenues for feedstock outtake, terminal handling and transportation, production plants, transportation and delivery of final products, sales of co-products and economic policy instruments.)
